THE DIACONATE

The Board of Deacons are entrusted with congregational care and is involved with service ministries within our church and community.  The Deacons assist with the preparation of the Lord’s Supper and meet and greet members and visitors each Sunday at the morning worship service.  Also, the Deacons are involved with the Helping Hands and R.A.K.E (Random Acts of Kindness for Everyone) program by providing assistance to members of FPC as needed.  The Deacons are responsible for the Shepherd Program where each Elder and Deacon of serves as a Shepherd to the families and individuals of First Presbyterian Church keeping everyone informed of what’s going on at FPC and being a vital link between the Church and its members.  Hospital cards are sent to the members of the congregation in the hospital or while recuperating at home.

Each year the Board of Deacons sponsors a Blood Drive and assists with the local Meals on Wheels program.  Donations are made yearly to Hospice and the Beacon Rescue Mission.  Migrant health care kits are assembled in May with food baskets being  delivered to families within the community at Christmas and Easter.  Each fall the Deacons provide new shoes to needy youth from Harnett Primary, Wayne Avenue, Dunn Middle and Triton High School in connection with its Shoe Project. 

Moderator for the Board of Deacons for 2008 is Brad Lasater.  Cora Sue Beasley, Will Pope, Gina Warren and Chip Youngblade are members of the Class of 2008.  Mary Gage, Brad Lasater, Chuck Robinson and Laura Warren are members of the Class of 2009 with Lynn Godwin, Rebecca Hales, Lou Ann Patrick and Chris Smith being members of the Class of 2010.
